Over 100 years of continuous legal service

Thornton + King is proud to build on the legacies of some of Sydney’s most respected local firms. Together, our story spans more than a century of trusted service to families, businesses, and communities.

  1. Miller Noyce begins

    KE Miller opens his practice in Hornsby, laying the foundations for what would become one of the region’s most established firms.

  2. 1960s–1990s – Growth in Hornsby

    The firm welcomed new partners, new offices, and eventually became known as Miller Noyce. In 1994, it moved into “Miller Noyce House” on Hunter Street, where it continues to operate as Thornton + King’s Hornsby offices today.

  3. Richard Harvey & Associates founded

    Based in Mosman, this firm built a reputation for quality advice across property and estates work, with founder Richard Harvey going on to become the President of the Law Society of NSW in 2020.

  4. Caputo Lawyers founded

    Vanessa Caputo established Caputo Lawyers, with offices in Rozelle and Dee Why, focusing on property, business, and estate law.

  5. Steiner Legal founded

    Erin Steiner opened Steiner Legal, bringing a compassionate, modern approach to family law and estate planning, and going on to become a market leader in specialist IVF and Surrogacy legal matters.

  6. Myall Coast Legal established

    Charmian Seil founded Myall Coast Legal in Tea Gardens to meet the growing need for local legal services in the local area.

  7. Thornton + King

    A new chapter begins, with the brand Thornton + King being launched by Vanessa Caputo and Karunn Shahani.

  8. Thornton + King acquires Myall Coast Legal

    Charmian Seil and the team at Myall Coast Legal join Thornton + King, expanding the firm’s reach into Newcastle and the Myall Lakes region.

  9. Thornton + King acquires Richard Harvey & Associates

    Richard Harvey and his Mosman practice were merged into the firm, strengthening its North Shore presence.

  10. Thornton + King acquires Miller Noyce Lawyers

    One of Australia’s oldest firms became part of Thornton + King, allowing continuity of a legacy that began in 1924.

  11. Thornton + King acquires Steiner Legal

    Steiner Legal’s family law and estate expertise is incorporated into Thornton + King, broadening the scope of the firm’s family law practice by expansion into additional specialised family law services.

  12. Today

    Thornton + King is proud to carry forward a legacy of over 100 years of continuous legal service, making the law simple for generations to come.
