Karunn is one of Sydney’s leading property and business lawyers. Acting as the Principal lawyer of Thornton + King, he is responsible for leading a team of exceptional lawyers on a range of property and business law matters.
Before becoming a lawyer, Karunn worked extensively in the hospitality industry and has started multiple businesses. As a lawyer, he’s worked at small firms, big firms, and even in-house at multinational corporations. Karunn’s life and work experience helps him to see eye to eye with you, and provides him with a depth of knowledge and experience to draw upon.
Karunn specialises in property and business law. While most lawyers typically specialise in either transactional or dispute work, Karunn is unique in that he has both deep transactional experience (having completed property and business transactions worth billions of dollars), as well as deep experience in successfully resolving many millions of dollars worth of property and business disputes.
Some of the recent matters Karunn has worked on include:
The collective negotiation and sale of several mixed use properties with 15 unique residential, retail, and commercial tenancies to a property developer.
The acquisition of a $50million development site for a property developer.
Advising a property developer and acting on their off the plan sales of 48 residential lots to individual purchasers.
Negotiating and reaching a settlement between property co-owners upon the breakdown of their business relationship.
Acting for a landlord to evict a tenant in breach of their multi-million dollar lease.
Successfully negotiating the termination of a disputed contract for the sale and purchase of land, and in doing so, avoiding a Supreme Court hearing.
Karunn is one of the few lawyers in the country who, following a series of structured peer to peer assessments carried out by the Law Society of New South Wales, has been awarded the title of Accredited Specialist in Property Law.
Karunn also sits on the Property Law Committee at the The Law Society of New South Wales, where he has the opportunity to give back to the legal community and the general public by assisting with, and providing feedback on, the development of property law reform in New South Wales.
