I’m renovating my apartment. Do I need a strata by-law?

It depends on what you are doing to your lot. Usually if any alterations will affect common property, you will need to have a common property rights by-law prepared and registered before you can carry out the works.

Do strata by-laws need to be registered?

Yes – any new or amended by-laws must be approved at a general meeting and then registered with NSW Land Registry Services.

Can we ban pets, smoking, or short-term rentals?

You can regulate them, however outright bans may not be enforceable. We can provide you with advice that is tailored to your circumstances, and help you to draft compliant by-laws.
